There are three important ingredients to a successful mastering session:
AN ACOUSTICALLY CORRECT ROOM
A VERY ACCURATE FULL RANGE MONITOR SYSTEM
A WELL-SEASONED & EXPERIENCED ENGINEER
SpectraSound mastering is based on our simple philosophy... ANALOG SOUNDS BETTER! The ear after all is an analog device, and analog is pleasing to humans. (My dog loves it too)
We've created a Frankenstein 1/2" mastering deck that we affectionately call "The Sopex"... half Sony, half Ampex. Because of it's Studer-like tape handling, I decided to use the Sony 5000 transport, but being an engineer who grew up on the Ampex 440 as a mastering deck I never forgot how wonderful it sounded. After a careful transplant of Ampex 1/2" heads and 440c electronics, the Sopex was born and tweaked to perfection. I am so confident that you will like our super-analog results that I will personally cut one song to demo this system…for free! You need to hear it to believe it.
After an intense and in-depth speaker shoot-out against many top contenders we chose the Barefoot MM27 full range system as our main monitors and we've placed them in a mid-field setting.
They are very accurate, very comfortable, have a ton of headroom and, most importantly, correctly transfer your mix to the real world. A low-stress listening environment where you can make important mixing decisions with confidence is the right place to be when mastering.
One more thing; we'll give free consultation on your mixes before the mastering session, which can be very helpful and even save you money. There can be potential problems in the mix that might not be perceived on conventional studio monitors. We can assess your mixes and ward off such dangers before we even start. A mastering room is the best place to critically evaluate pre-master mixes.
